Two weeks ago we took our llamas to the Rawah Wilderness area in northern Colorado. The llamas carry our camping and painting gear. They love to be out in the high country. This is a horizontal shaped canvas to help capture the panorama of mountains and snow fields of the area.
There was so much snow up there this year and yes the misquotes were out in force also.

Last weekend we took a llama trip to the Rawah Wilderness Area west of Ft Collins Colorado. Every on e we ran into on the trail with a backpack said that llamas were a good idea. At my age having the llamas carry my camping and painting gear is wonderful. I completed four paintings on the trip. Here is a afternoon painting of the area we stayed.

Park Bench #713
Oil on linen on quarter inch Baltic birch
Size 7x9 inches
Coat $85
Shipping $9
I was at the Pippen art fair in Prescott Arizona over Memorial Day holiday weekend. This bench was behind the Viet Nam war memorial next to the courthouse. I have made three paintings that will be up coming on the blog. I was moved by the number of people who stopped at the memorial and paid homage to the fallen soldiers of that war. This bench was in direct sun and I loved the light that fell on the people while they looked at the memorial or just conversed.

This painting was completed two weeks ago. In June a group of us went to the Snowy Range MST. just west of Laramie Wyoming. This river spot was near Centennial Wyoming. I love this spot and it never fails to inspire me to paint yet another aspect of it.

Miners Pass This Year #706

This has been such a wet spring and the snow is still thick in the high country of Colorado.
I just painted this yesterday and the painting will need about nine more days to dry to be safe enough to ship. Later this week my wife and I are going on a llama trek in the Colorado high country. Stay tuned for those paintings next week.

Its hard to believe all the snow that remains in the high country of Colorado. I completed this painting yesterday and it needs ten days to dry before shipping from this date. I am at the Breckenridge Colorado art festival this weekend where I painted this lovely little piece. The holiday weekend has brought lots of people to the high country for all the festivities around town.

7-3-09 Western Cottonwood

Western Cottonwood #703
Oil on linen on quarter inch Baltic Birch ply
Size 8x10 inches
Cost
Shipping $9
This back lit cottonwood was found in Wyoming, north of Jackson Hole. I have recently completed a Wyoming series of paintings showing off the Teton mountains. This back lit tree did not show off the beautiful Teton mountains however I could not pass it up. The morning sun coming up through the branches was dramatic and I had to paint it.

7-2-09 Ranch Along the Tetons #702

Ranch Along The Tetons #702
Oil on linen on quarter inch Baltic Birch
Size 9x16
Three weeks ago I was in Jackson Hole Wyoming and found this ranch north of town. All the ranches north of Jackson are part of an open space reserve for bison, elk and other large animals that are easily spotted roaming around. I wondered what this ranch must of been like back in the 1930's. I have a hard time with Jackson Hole because it is such a tourist trap. Nothing of the old days seems to remain except for the elk horns piled up in the park.
